Things that I love in the sunshine

With summer around the bend and teases of it's glorious weather I have decided to put together some things I love that the summer represents.

flowers - when i walk down my street in the summer it smells of beautiful roses, peonys, lilacs and other flowers. It's heaven

an ice cold beer- and to go along with my ice cold beer, out door seating

dresses, dresses, dresses- whether it be short or long a dress is the easiest way to feel good in the summer.

smiles- the warm weather always brings out the best in people

flip flops- when you wanna go barefoot but you live in the city, this is second best

a sun glow- or a tan to most.

braids- i love putting my hair in a braid or two, and in summer it's so easy and can be glamorous at the same time.

colors- although i wear black and white to work- summer allows you to work with all sorts of colors be it clothing or make up

love- even though love is all year round, summer is the most fun time to have it!!

One door closes another opens

I work for a salon in NYC that has two locations, we just found out yesterday that we are closing the location I mostly work at. Although this is sad, I have always felt that when one door closes another opens. NYC is always booming with activity and there is room to grow all over. In a place like this you can really flourish and no matter which door is closing there is always something on the other side. I will be transported to the downtown location where I started. It's nice, it feels like coming home in a way. I've never worried in New York, even when out of a job I've always figured it out. there is always something.

I've learned keep your head high, fake it till you make it, never doubt yourself, and when one door closes another always opens.

rain in nyc

I swear no matter it a drizzle or a down pour NYC turns into a mad house in the rain. It's like people forget how to walk/drive and be courteous (not that nyers are known for being courteous anyways). People will frequently bash you with their umbrella, slam doors in your face and push you to get into a subway, filled or not. I would like to address a letter to nyers.
Dear people of New York,
It's just rain, unless you are the Wicked Witch of the West, it won't hurt you.
Love,
Kaytee

Where do these 11 year olds come from?

A woman and her daughter come into the salon. This happens often, so I thought, "oh, cute little girl, I'll give her to M." M was sitting next to me, and gladly accepted having the little girl for the client. The first words out of this young lady's mouth were "I have a house in Malibu."
Then she preceeded to question M and myself with these spectacular questions:

"Do you have a boyfriend?"
"Does he have a 6 pack?"
"Is he sexy?"
"Can I see a picture?"
And so on....for an hour! Insisting she see pictures of our boyfriends, who are in their 20's without shirts on, trying to google them and asking to see my phone. Her mother was in the back of the salon oblivious to her child's behavior and actions and according to her own child does not even know half of what goes on in her life. (i. e. 2 boyfriends and pictures on her phone of them.)

How are people raising their children these days?? I learned she has two boyfriends, one with a 6 pack, one with "Justin Beiber hair" -- and they send her pictures of themselves on her phone. An 11 yr old should not have a picture of her boyfriend's abs on her phone, let alone 2 boyfriends. Her mother was so non chalant and not involved while her daughter was running amok everywhere.

I myself do not have children, however I know many mothers, and love children. I also know there are many different degrees and types of motherhood. However, these children, this example is what frightens me to ever have kids. Not for my own kids, I have enough values to know I will be a good mother, but for the children my children will grow up around. I am the oldest out of 4 siblings. I understand that at around 11 that is where you notice the other sex, but to this crazy obsessed level I have never seen. I have no control over what other people notice or don't notice in their children, I just hope I would have enough sense to see these signs in my children or even my younger siblings.

poop and nose picking - typical nyc morning.

An adventurous morning here in NYC, in case you couldn't tell from the title of this post. I have been sick for a few days now but made the mistake of picking up extra shifts at work. I had to withhold my puke on two occasions this morning; 1. a grown woman (yes with the cutest little two year old) pick her nose and eat it! Sitting right across from me, something I would expect and even laugh at if her two year old was doing this. Not so funny when a 40-something does it. Then I get off the train, go up the stairs and approach the steps to the outside and there at 7:30am is a HUGE pile of human poo. Not something I wanted to see/almost step in first thing in the am while being already sick. I embarrassingly gagged while walking down the sidewalk until I got to work. (and continued gagging as I'm writing this).

I have to work now, don't worry all my posts won't be about gross poop and grown up nose picking ;)
